“The Lyre of Orpheus” from the Triptych of Sofia Gubaidulina in Basle

During the course of his Basle Festival entitled “les muséiques,” Gidon Kremer will give the premiere of Sofia Gubaidulina’s “The Lyre of Orpheus” for violin, string orchestra and percussion. The performers are Gidon Kremer (violin), Peter Sadlo and Andrei Pushkarev (percussion) and the Kremerata Baltica under the direction of Roman Kofman.

“The Lyre of Orpheus” forms the first part of the triptych “Nadeyka” which embraces Gubaidulina’s three latest compositions and is dedicated to her daughter Nadeshda, who died in 2004. The triptych also includes “… The Deceitful Face of Hope and of Despair” for flute and orchestra and the orchestral work “The Banquet during the Plague.” These works can also be performed individually, apart from the triptych idea.

The complete Triptych will be premiered on 12 January 2007 during the course of the BBC Composers’ Weekend in London under the direction of Martyn Brabbins.
