Paris Ballet Premiere “L’envol d’Icare” with Alfred Schnittke

Alfred Schnittke and the ballet genre are inseparably bound together. Not only was Schnittke stimulated to write his own ballet composition “Peer Gynt,” primarily through his collaboration with the choreographer John Neumeier, but his music was also repeatedly danced by Neumeier and many other choreographers. The latest example is the premiere of the ballet “L’envoi d’Icare” at the Paris Opera on 9 October 2006. The musical background will be furnished by the Concert for Piano and String Orchestra of Alfred Schnittke, amongst other works.
