An Oscar for Suzie Templeton’s Short Film “Peter and the Wolf” based on Prokofiev

The DVD production “Peter and the Wolf” based on Sergei Prokofiev, issued by the classic label Arthaus Musik has won an Oscar in the category “Best Animated Short Film.”

In so-called “stop-frame animation,” a cartoon technique well known through films such as “Wallace and Grommit” and “Chicken Run,” Suzie Templeton tells the famous story with the music by Sergei Prokofiev in a slightly varied form.

The most marked difference from the original is at the end, where Peter does not celebrate the victory over the wolf in a triumphal march, instead feeling sympathy for the animal and his natural instincts and setting the frightened wolf free.
