New production of Shostakovich's brilliant operetta “Moscow Cheryomushki” in Augsburg

Dmitri Shostakovich’s entertaining operetta “Moscow Cheryomushki” is becoming increasingly popular and is undergoing many new productions. On 11 December 2021, the work will premiere at the Staatstheater Augsburg in Gerard McBurney’s reduced version with German dialogue. Shostakovich chose a contemporary political theme for his play, which was first performed in 1958, and transposed musically in a racy and humorous way. It is about the construction of a Soviet-style residential paradise on the outskirts of Moscow and the hopes of various Muscovites associated with it.
