Book by Osmo Tapio Räihälä is awarded the “Finlandia Prize for Non-Fiction”

The Finnish composer Osmo Tapio Räihälä published his first book "Miksi nykymusiikki auf niin vaikeaa" earlier this year. The book, which was published in Finnish and is also to be published in German and English, has now received the prestigious “Finlandia Prize for Non-Fiction”.
In the book, Räihälä raises the question of why contemporary music seems so difficult to appreciate. He says: “It is a popularisation of exactly that: Why does contemporary music sound the way it did and, above all, the way we should hear it. A lot of people turn away from contemporary music because they don’t think they ‘get’ it, as if anyone could understand any music!”
