First International Weinberg Violin Competition in Katowice

From 4 to 12 December 2021, the International Weinberg Violin Competition will be held for the first time at the Katowice Academy of Music. The artistic director of this competition is Szymon Krzeszowiec, primarius of the Silesian String Quartet and head of the string department at the Katowice Academy of Music. One of the competition pieces for the final round is Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s Violin Concerto, which is published by Sikorski Music Publishers.

In his welcoming address Prof. Dr. Szymon Krzeszowiec of the Katowice Academy of Music writes:

“Until recently, Mieczysław Weinberg was completely unknown. Since the discovery of his legacy, he has quickly come to be regarded as one of the greatest Polish composers of the 20th century, alongside Karol Szymanowski, Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Krzysztof Penderecki. Today, Weinberg's oeuvre is being enthusiastically discovered by more and more music lovers worldwide, and the number of musicians performing his solo, chamber and symphonic works is growing daily.

Young violinists from all over the world are encouraged to discover the timeless beauty and infinite depth of his music.”
