Shostakovich and Gubaidulina in the Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin

As part of the Edward W. Said Days of the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, there will be a chamber concert on 30 September 2021 in the Pierre Boulez Saal of the Akademie featuring, among others, works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sofia Gubaidulina. Following a lecture on Dmitri Shostakovich by Elizabeth Wilson, students and teachers of the Barenboim-Said Academy will, in this concert, trace the “double-tonguedness” of Soviet composers. Dmitri Shostakovich dedicated his 8th String Quartet op. 110 to the victims of fascism. Sofia Gubaidulina, who was ostracised by Tikhon Khrennikov at the 6th Congress of the Soviet Composers’ Union in 1979, fearlessly undermined state authority with electronic experimentation in “Vivente - non vivente”.
