Swiss premiere of Lera Auerbach’s “Goetia 72 – in umbra lucis”

This composition by the Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach has truly gone around the world, and it will be performed in Switzerland for the first time. Following premieres of the work “Goetia 72 - In umbra lucis” for choir and string quartet, which premiered in Berlin in 2019, that have already taken place in many countries, we can now tell of its Swiss premiere to be performed on 1 October 2021 in Zurich. The performers are the Zürcher Sing-Akademie, which commissioned the work together with the RIAS Kammerchor, the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Cracow Singers and Wien Modern, and the Galatea Quartet conducted by Florian Helgath.

The work’s title refers to a 17th century magical script describing the 72 demons of King Solomon. “Goetia” thus represents a counterpart to Lera Auerbach’s 2016vocal cycle “72 Engel. In splenore lucis”.
