Kronberg Academy Festival 2021 featuring works by Lera Auerbach, Sofia Gubaidulina and Dmitri Shostakovich

The Kronberg Academy Festival, held annually from 29 September to 3 October 2021, has chosen the motto “Woman Makes Music” for this season. Upon which the organisers write:

“The focus is on 26 works by female composers from four centuries and various countries. But you may also hear music whose very genesis was inspired or initiated by women - as dedicatees, patrons, ‘muse’, first performers ... World-renowned performers and young talents as soloists and chamber musicians, exhibitions and lectures - a feast for all who love the violin, viola and cello.”

Among the works performed are Lera Auerbach’s “Serenade for a Melancholic Sea” for violin, cello, piano and string orchestra, Sofia Gubaidulina’s “Seven Words” for cello, bayan and strings, and a selection from Dmitri Shostakovich’s op. 34, arranged by Lera Auerbach for cello and piano.
