Sofia Gubaidulina’s second season as Gewandhaus composer

It is Sofia Gubaidulina’s second season as Gewandhaus composer in Leipzig, which will open on 17/19 September 2021 with her Triple Concerto. In addition, the Gewandhaus Orchestra will celebrate the composer’s 90th birthday with a Gubaidulina Day on 24 October 2021, which is also the Gewandhaus Open Day.

The orchestra writes:

“Gewandhaus composer Sofia Gubaidulina turns 90 today! We congratulate the tirelessly creative artist on Open House Day with a tribute to her fascinatingly rich oeuvre and accompany her to important stages of her eventful life, such as studying in Shostakovich’s environment and improvising with friends on folk instruments. Throughout the house, there will be small concerts and musical workshops with members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, as well as talks and film screenings.”
