Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival 2021

From 16 to 19 September 2021, Rotterdam will once again host the annual Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival. This time the theme is St. Petersburg.

Valery Gergiev still calls Rotterdam his “second home”, but his first home is and remains Saint Petersburg. The city has been the cultural capital of Russia for centuries and has a very eventful history. This is reflected in the spectacular programmes of this year’s festival: from Shostakovich’s grimly witty 1st Symphony to Rimsky-Korsakov’s spectacular “Sheherazade” with the Mariinsky Orchestra to a closing evening full of Tchaikovsky works such as his last Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique” and the rarely performed Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring soloist Alexandre Kantorov.
