International Stiftfestival 2021 featuring 40 works by Sikorski Music Publishers

At the annual International Stiftfestival, held near the Dutch city of Oldenzaal and themed “Eastern Winds” for 2021, a total of 40 Sikorski works is to be performed between 21 and 29 August 2021 (see below for the programme in detail). These comprise mainly chamber music, but Sofia Gubaidulina’s “Seven Words” for cello, bayan and strings (22 August 2021) will also be presented, as well as a suite from Alfred Schnittke’s film music “The Life Story of an Unknown Actor” for string orchestra on the final day. There will also be a screening of the Russian film “The Cranes are Flying”, for which Mieczyslaw Weinberg wrote the score. Elena Firsova’s “Night Songs” for soprano, flute and violoncello on 22 August 2021 will be the Dutch premiere of this work. Dmitri Smirnov’s “Into the Light” sonata for double bass and piano op. 193 on 27 August 2021 is also a European premiere. Embedded in the festival is a larger Shostakovich focus, in which, among other things, all of Shostakovich’s string quartets will be presented over two days by various quartet formations (Animato Quartet, Belinfante Quartet and others). The festival performers are mainly young Dutch musicians or musicians working in the Netherlands, and Daniel Rowling (violin), Alissa Firsova (conductor, piano) and Maja Bogdanovic (cello) will also take part.
