Arvo Pärt Receives Austrian Cross of Honour

The composer Arvo Pärt (born in Paide, Estonia in 1935) is being awarded the Cross of Honour of Austria. After his flight from the Soviet Union, Pärt lived for a while in Austria and received Austrian citizenship.

As the internet portal “codexflores” reports, Pärt explained, when presented with the Cross of Honour, that he had become a citizen of the Alpine state entirely unawares as a stateless person.

Alongside Pärt’s 1st and 2nd Symphonies, the works Collage on B-A-C-H for strings, oboe, harpsichord and piano as well as the Concerto Piccolo on B-A-C-H for trumpet, string orchestra, harpsichord and piano are published by Sikorski Publishers.
