Johannes X. Schachtner’s “Carnival of the Animals” for piano six hands with Ensemble PianinoPoetico

On 16 December 2021, we will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Camille Saint-Saëns. To mark this occasion, the young Bavarian composer Johannes X. Schachtner, who has already arranged a large number of works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, among others, has created a version of Saint-Saëns’ famous concert classic “Carnival of the Animals” for piano six hands. The original work for two solo pianos and orchestra, in which selected orchestral instruments are prominently featured in individual animal portraits, is demanding and highly virtuosic for all participants. The fact that Schachtner's already colourful and fast-paced part of the two pianos is now extended to six pianos together with the orchestral part is a special attraction.

On 26 June 2021, the composer's 36th birthday, the six-hand version will be premiered in Gauting as part of a release concert for a CD recording of this striking arrangement with a text by Tilman Strasser (EAN code: 4020796486617) to be published by Hofa-Medien. The performers are the Ensemble PianinoPoetico (Lauriane Follonier, Henri Bonamy, Konstantin Esterl).

The Schachtner works "Pacifico" for piano four hands and "Pianino Poetico II" for piano six hands will also be performed in the same concert.
