12th Shostakovich Days Gohrisch 2021 featuring premieres and first performances

On 24 June 2021, the International Shostakovich Days Gohrisch will begin this time, as an exception due to Corona, at the Festspielhaus (Festival Theatre) Hellerau (near Dresden). For four days until 27 June, there will be spectacular concerts with world premieres and first performances, primarily by Dmitri Shostakovich, which will enthuse experts and audiences alike. One of the world premieres will be Dmitri Shostakovich’s string orchestra arrangement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Adagio cantabile, which has long been greatly anticipated. Shostakovich’s arrangement of Gaetano Braga’s Serenade for soprano, mezzo-soprano, violin and piano is also to receive its German premiere. This was originally intended to be part of his opera “The Black Monk”, which Shostakovich began in 1972 but ultimately was to remain unfinished.

The Shostakovich Days will be preceded by a special concert by the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden conducted by Vladimir Jurowski at the Dresden Kulturpalast on 23 June 2021. Here, in addition to the complete ballet music “L’oiseau de feu” (The Firebird) by Igor Stravinsky, the Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor op. 77 by Dmitri Shostakovich will be performed with the Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos.
