Augsburg Live Streaming of Gubaidulina’s “Reflections on the Theme B-A-C-H” on 8 May 2021

The Augsburg State Theatre presents contemporary music of the past three decades in the impressive ambience of the Augsburg State Textile and Industrial Museum (tim). On Saturday 1 May, the first of five videos recorded by members of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of GMD Domonkos Héja was released. On 8 May 2021, “Reflections on the Theme B-A-C-H” for string quartet by Sofia Gubaidulina is also to be performed by members of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra as part of a live stream. The piece was once commissioned by the Brentano String Quartet and premiered at Dartmouth in 2002. In it, Gubaidulina reflects on the unfinished final fugue from Bach’s “Art of the Fugue” in poignantly dense and highly intense music.

The recordings were made at various acoustically suitable locations in the tim, for example in the permanent exhibition near the impressive Rouleaux printing press.

State Director André Bücker is very pleased to be able once again to intensify the long-standing cooperation between tim and the State Theatre, especially in these times: “Contemporary music is a very important component of our repertoire and fits perfectly into the atmosphere of Augsburg’s tim. I am very pleased that we can now offer another musical highlight digitally with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra.”
