SWR2 dedicates an evening concert to Sofia Gubaidulina on 9 April 2021

SWR 2 is to broadcast an evening concert on 9 April 2021 from 8:05 p.m. featuring Sofia Gubaidulina’s works “Transformation” for solo trombone, saxophone quartet, cello, double bass and tam-tam, “Offertorium” for violin and orchestra and ‘So Be It” for violin, double bass, piano and percussion.
“Social criticism and spirituality”, as the broadcaster commenting on the composer’s work says, “are two driving forces for composer Sofia Gubaidulina, celebrating her 90th birthday in 2021. “Her works are not infrequently about the societal mechanisms in which the individual tries to assert himself. The chamber piece ‘Metamorphosis’ observes a tragic-comic isolated trombonist. Her violin concerto ‘Offertorium’ deals with the otherworldly and transcendental of sacrifice. The title 'So Be It' in her funeral music for a deceased composer friend is an approximate translation of the Hebrew ‘Amen’."
