Sofia Gubaidulina is Composer-in-Residence at the Giverny Chamber Music Festival

Since 2004 a chamber music festival has been taking place during the last two weeks of August in the small town of Giverny in Normandy. It was founded by the French cellist Michel Strauss. Twenty interpreters, some young and others well established in musical life, meet to practice and perform works from the past and present at rehearsals and concerts. This year’s guest interpreters include Gil Sharon and Grigori Zhislin, amongst others.

After Henri Dutilleux and Krzysztof Penderecki, Sofia Gubaidulina has been invited to Giverny as this year’s composer-in-residence. The following works of the composer will be performed during the course of the Festival:

- Silenzio. Five Pieces for Bayan, Violin and Violoncello

- “Letter to the Poetess Rimma Dalos” for Soprano and Violoncello

- “Quasi Hoquetus” for Viola, Violoncello and Piano

- Ten Preludes for Violoncello Solo

“Reflections on B-A-C-H” for String Quartet
