Nicholas Angelich releases Prokofiev album featuring 8th piano sonata and Visions fugitives

The American pianist Nicholas Angelich highly praised for his “fine filigree work”, as the newspaper WELT once put it, has dedicated an album of his own to Sergei Prokofiev on the Erato label.

The selection of pieces from the late Piano Sonata No. 8 to the early work "Visions fugitives" and selected piano arrangements from the ballet "Romeo and Juliet" is Angelich’s way of exploring the immense wealth of contrasts in Prokofiev's piano works. In so doing, the pianist also grapples with the question of what influenced the artist's compositional work recalling Prokofiev's own career as a piano virtuoso and his experiences of exile in France and the cultural contrasts with his Russian homeland. Angelich’s new interpretations are elegant, but also abound in surprises.

We are commemorating the 130th anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev’s birth on 23 April 2021. Do also read our article in the current Sikorski Magazine 1/2021 on pages 12 and 13.
