The jury was fascinated by the “poly-stylistic sound world of Alfred Schnittke, whose first cello concerto was a masterpiece and today belongs to the standard repertoire.” The soloist Eckhart Runge, long-time cellist of the Artemis Quartet, utterly convinces with “an intensity that gets under your skin.”

Runge is accompanied on this CD, which also includes the cello concerto by Nikolai Kapustin, by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin conducted by Frank Strobel.
