Jüri Reinvere will receive the Prize of Cultural Endowment of Estonia on October 2, 2020

The Estonian composer Jüri Reinvere, born in 1971, will be awarded the prestigious Prize of Cultural Endowment of Estonia on October 2, 2020 for works that were created in 2019.

The extraordinary productivity of Reinvere's in 2019 proves his versatility as a composer in all musical genres from chamber music to opera, from orchestral works to choral music, explains the jury. He has greatly enriched his oeuvre with great success and with constant public sympathy.

In January 2020, Jüri Reinvere caused a sensation with the world premiere of his opera "Minona" about the Beethoven daughter Minona von Stackelberg. On September 17, 2020, his saxophone quartet "A-O" was premiered during the Estonian Music Days.

The works for which Jüri Reinvere receives the Estonian Cultural Capital Prize:

1. “Before Leviathan Awakes”, orchestral work

2. Cello sonata
(David Geringas, Ian Fountain)

3. Cello concerto "Inter Lacrimas et Luctum" 
(Jean-Guihen Queyras, Ensemble Modern) (commissioned by Kronberg Academy)

4. Solo cantata with choir and orchestra “My fatherland, my love“ 
(Kai Rüütel [mezzo-soprano], orchestra of the Vanemuine theatre, Estonian academic male choir, female choir of the University of Tartu, Kaspar Mänd), commissioned for the 150th anniversary of the first Estonian song festival in Tartu

5. Opera “Minona” in 2 acts
(commissioned by Theater Regensburg) just nominated for the premiere of the year in “Opernwelt”

6. “Stern von Waltershausen” for organ and 1-2 instruments - premiered with trumpet and violin 
(Simon Höfele, Franziska Hölscher, Sebastian Küchler-Blessing) (commissioned by Bachwoche Ansbach)

7. Oratorio “The Expulsion of Ishmaels”
(commissioned by the RIAS Chamber Choir) 
World premiere postponed from March 2020 to spring 2022
