Benjamin Yusopov’s Violoncello Concerto is the “Best Israeli Composition 2008”

Benjamin Yusupov has received the award “Best Israeli Composition 2008” for his Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra. The cellist Mischa Maisky performed the world premiere of the work with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction in Lucerne in January 2008. The prestigious prize, endowed with 20,000 US dollars, will be presented to the composer by the Israeli Prime Minister on 24 September 2008 at Jerusalem Theatre.

Yusupov has already won this prize for his work once before, for his Violin Concerto in 1999.
