Composers on the Coronavirus Crisis: Tigran Mansurian

The consequences of the coronavirus crisis move us all. We have asked our composers how these months and weeks affect their artistic work. What they answer will be published progressively in this section as they appear.

Tigran Mansurian

(The composer Tigran Manssurjan, born in 1939, is one of the most important composers of new Armenian music together with Jerwand Jerkanjan and Awet Terterjan.)

During the day, I sometimes look out of my window: I saw how the trees in front of it wore green.

For some hours, I am at my piano or at my desk.

Now and then, I follow-up with the news that enter my house.

But most of all, I am into the silence, this solemn silence... Today's solemn silence. I ponder upon it, I live with it; in my imagination, I record the dimensions of its infinite size.

It seems that the silence-musical sound relationship needs rethinking.
