Maximiliano Alejandro Soto Mayorga is the winner of the TONALi20 composition award

The winner of the TONALi20 composition award has been determined. It is the Chilean composer Maximiliano Alejandro Soto Mayorga. He is honored for his composition "... figuras en la escarcha" for solo violin, which will be premiered as part of the TONALi20 festival from June 15 to 19, 2020. The work will shortly be published as a print version by Sikorski music publishers.

Born in Santiago, Chile in 1991, Maximiliano Soto Mayorga has been a master composition student in the class of Prof. Johannes Schöllhorn at the Freiburg University of Music since October 2017. In 2019 he was a finalist at the DMW and composer in residence at the Landesjugendensemble Neue Musik Baden-Württemberg. In 2018 he received the DAAD Prize 2018 and the "Pulsar" Prize for Classical Music 2018 from the "SCD Chile" as the best artist in the "Classical Music and Concert" category.
Mayorga completed his bachelor's degree in composition with the highest distinction at the Universidad de Chile in 2016. In 2016 he received the "Carlos Riesco Prize" from the Chilean Art Academy and was third in the composition competition of the Marga-Marga Orchestra Valparaiso. Between 2017 and 2018 he was artistic director of “Azul, Festival de Nueva Música”, a festival for Chilean new music in Santiago de Chile. Between 2015 and 2016 Maximiliano Soto Mayorga was cultural and concert manager at “Germina.Cciones… Primaveras Latinoamericanas”, an NGO for pedagogy and contemporary art and music in Latin America. Since 2018 he has been leading a composition workshop at the Wiehre refugee home in Freiburg at the "Orchester con anima Freiburg".
