German premiere of Osmo Tapio Räihäläs piano trio Temptations in Berlin

The piano trio "Temptations" by Osmo Tapio Räihälä will be first performed in Germany on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at the BKA Theater in Berlin by the Neue Klaviertrio Dresden. Three further performances take place in Dresden (31.10.), Chemnitz (1.11.) And in Görlitz (3.11.). The Piano Trio was created in 2017 for a concert series on the 100th anniversary of Finland's independence. The program included Finnish piano trios from 1917 to 2017. A piano trio was also programmed by Joonas Kokkonen (1921-1996), whose best-known work is the opera "The Last Temptations" from 1975.

“This gave me the idea of a work in three non-stop phrases, in which the inspiration for the music comes from different possibilities of a temptation," explains the composer. “The first is titled ‘Honey Trap’, to be played ‘molto insettuoso’ – insect-like. A honey trap can be a carnivorous plant, but also a sexual temptation, aiming to trap a politician, a businessman and suchlike. The second, restless movement is titled ‘Corryvreckan’. The name comes from the maelstrom in the inner Hebrides – for centuries countless seamen have defied its perils, and many a ship has ended up in the abyss. The last movement is titled ‘Birds of Paradise’, to be played ‘moltouccelloso’, bird-like. Seemingly there’s neither aim nor structure, just chirping and colourful scampering through branches and tree-tops. But what is the aim of the birds, isn't it to charm a partner, to build up temptations?”
