Simone Young on Jörn Arnecke’s New Work “Kristallisationen”

The Hamburg Philharmonic and their Artistic Director Simone Young have commissioned a work from the Hamburg composer Jörn Arnecke which will receive its world premiere on 7 June 2009 at the 10th Philharmonic Concert. On 22 January, the composer handed over his score to Simone Young at a press event.

“I am delighted that Jörn Arnecke has written a concert work for the Philharmonic for the first time, especially for soloists from the ranks of our orchestra,” says Simone Young. “I think it is very important to make a continual presence possible for young composers. Jörn Arnecke’s artistic home is Hamburg, but he is increasing gaining international attention.”

Arnecke is well known to the Philharmonic and the Hamburg State Opera since the world premieres of his chamber operas “The Celebration in the Sea” (2003) and “Butterfly Blues” (2005). In addition, the new composition will be the occasion for a new educational project of the Hamburg Philharmonic. Arnecke will work together with pupils of the Goethe Gymnasium in Hamburg and with musicians from the ranks of the Philharmonic.

“This is the beginning of our publishing collaboration with Jörn Arnecke,” commented Dr. Axel Sikorski at the presentation of the score. “We are delighted over the future collaboration and are greatly looking forward to the world premiere.”
