“… ins Offene …” - Portrait Concert for Peter Ruzicka on NDR Kultur

The world premiere of his new opera HÖLDERLIN at the State Opera Unter den Linden Berlin in November 2008 took place just three months ago. For composer Peter Ruzicka, however, this occasion was not the only high point of the past year. In July 2008 the former Director of the Hamburg State Opera and the Salzburg Festival, and the present Artistic Director of the Munich Biennale celebrated his 60th birthday. The NDR series “das neue werk,” together with the Hamburg Free Academy of the Arts, dedicated a portrait concert to the composer on 24 October 2008 at the Rolf Liebermann Studio which will be broadcast during the soirée on 8 February from 22:00 to 00:00 PM.

At the centre of this concert and of the soirée programme are three of Ruzicka’s six string quartets, played by the Minguet Quartet, also including the Hamburg premiere of the latest contribution to this genre, “Erinnerung und Vergessen” (Remembering and Forgetting) for string quartet and soprano. In addition, the NDR Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction will perform “…ins Offene…” (“…into the Open…”), music for 22 strings related to Hölderlin’s cosmos.

Peter Ruzicka will himself introduce some of the works in his own words during this broadcast.
