Leras Auerbachs The Little Mermaid is back in San Francisco

Lera Auerbachs and John Neumeier's world-renowned ballet "The Little Mermaid" is back in the program of the San Francisco ballet. The first performance will take place on April 19, 2019 in San Francisco.
The fairytale ballet with Auerbach's music was created by John Neumeier with the Royal Danish Ballet in celebration of the 200th birthday of the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen. Neumeier created a modern yet timeless interpretation of the little mermaid - a dramatic fairytale scenario that plays in two opposing worlds. The simple underwater world of the sea creatures forms a huge contrast to the pompous life of the people in the arid land. The central figure of the mermaid travels through both worlds and endures endless suffering in her unconditional love for the prince - through her own strength she finds redemption in the end. The ballet underscores the parallels of the fairytale to Hans Christian Andersen's own biography.
