Samuel Penderbayne to receive Hamburgs 2019 Bach Scholarship Award

After announcing Korean composer Unsuk Chin as the winner of this year’s Bach Prize, the city of Hamburg also revealed the name of this year’s Bach Scholar. The 2019 edition of the Bach Scholarship Award will go to the Australian composer Samuel Penderbayne.
The Bach Scholarship Award carries a stipend of € 5,000 that will enable Penderbayne, who now lives in Hamburg, to create a new musical work. Samuel Penderbayne’s chamber opera “” was widely praised after its world premiere at Hamburg’s Staatsoper. The composer’s new piece “Dreimal 3” will be featured at Hamburg’s KinderKinder children’s music festival.
Its premiere is scheduled for 10 May 2019 at Kampnagel. The performance will be conducted by Heiko Hentschel.
