Special concert in Hamburg to feature composer Sofia Gubaidulina

We’re excited to announce that the 87-year-old composer Sofia Gubaidulina will perform at a special concert in Hamburg’s Church of St Johannis, located in the Harvesterhude area of the city.
Several decades ago, Sofia Gubaidulina, Vyacheslav Artyomov and Viktor Suslin began to collaborate in finding and creating new sounds on unusual instruments. In 1975, they founded the improvisation ensemble Astraea in the former Soviet Union. Gubaidulina, of course, has since become a major composer in her own right. The masterfully constructed drama of her compositions has provided audiences around the world with powerful auditory experiences that have also a deep emotional impact.
The Astraea project survived in Hamburg through Alexander and Viktor Suslin, with Heinz-Erich Gödecke later joining the group. On 14 March 2019, Astraea will perform in a new line-up in the Church of St Johannis, featuring Sofia Gubaidulina, Geir Draugsvoll and Heinz-Erich Gödecke.
