Titular organist Iveta Apkalna with Gubaidulina and Shostakovich on the first Elbphilharmonie organ CD

The Latvian-born titular organist of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Iveta Apkalna, has released the first organ album of the Elbphilharmonie under the title "Light & Dark" on the label Berlin classics and has mainly chosen works of modern and contemporary music. Apart from pieces by György Ligeti, Leos Janácek and the composers of their homeland Aivars Kalējs and Lūcija Garūta, the famous passacaglia from Dmitri Shostakovich's opera "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" and Sofia Gubaidulina's "Hell and Dark" are the central works of this recording.
The daily newspaper "DIE WELT" writes in its issue of 31st August 2018 about this:

"(...) The eponymous work of the album is composed in 1976 organ work, Bright and Dark 'by Sofia Gubaidulina, which is about playing with the shades of contrasting registers. At the same time the organ gets into a flicker and produces glissandrous glissandi. "These very fast leaps from darkness to light also correspond to the character of the Klais organ," says Apkalna. The instrument has this dynamic and also emotional bandwidth. The interpreter just has to go with it or, better, fly with us. '(...) "
