German first performance of Rudolf Barschais adaption of The Art of the Fugue

The Russian conductor and violist Rudolf Barschai crowned his life's work with the orchestral treatment of Johann Sebastian Bach's "The Art of the Fugue" for solo instruments, string orchestra and harpsichord shortly before his death on 2 November 2010. The Dresdner Kapellsolisten bring the work on 29 April 2018 now in Lohmen for the German premiere. At the same time, the work will also be recorded on CD.
Barschai, born in Russia on September 28, 1924, became famous for his sensitive and authentic arrangements of chamber music works by Dmitry Shostakovich and Sergey Prokofiev. His ingenious realization of the 8th string quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich, who gained great popularity worldwide under the name Kammersinfonie op. 110a, is particularly successful.
