John Neumeier's Anna Karenina with music by Alfred Schnittke at the Bolshoi Theater Moscow

John Neumeier's ballet "Anna Karenina" will be shown on March 23, 2018 on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. The star ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet Svetlana Sakharova dances the title role at the premiere. The costumes were designed by designer Albert Kriemler. The premiere at the Bolshoi Theater Moscow is a coproduction with the Hamburg Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada. The premiere of "Anna Karenina" was presented by the Hamburg Ballet on July 2, 2017 at the beginning of the 43rd Hamburg Ballet Days.
According to the press office of the Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier's initial impulse to create the ballet "Anna Karenina" was sparked at the Bolshoi Theater through his collaboration with Svetlana Sakharova in the context of performances of his ballet "Die Kameliendame".
John Neumeier uses for his choreography u.a. Excerpts from the following film scores by Alfred Schnittke: "The Commissioner", "The Life Story of an Unknown Actor", "The Glass Harmonica" and "The Rise". All of these works are arrangements by Frank Strobel.
