Katia Tchemberdji Composer-in-Residence at CLASSIX Kempten 2017

Katia Tchemberdji will be composer-in-residence at the CLASSIK Kempten 2017, the annual chamber music festival whose artistic director is the pianist Oliver Triendl. This year’s festival in the Allgäu, held from 24 September until 1 October 2017, is under the motto “Women Composers – Strong Pieces by the 'Gentle Sex'”. To realise this theme, Triendl has invited approximately twenty hand-picked musicians from around the world to Kempten, where they will rehearse and perform this mostly little-known repertoire on location. Alongside works by Tchemberdji and numerous other women composers, Sofia Gubaidulina’s “Sounds of the Forest” for flute and piano will also be performed. Katia Tchemberdji is being represented on the festival programme with a total of five works, including the world premiere of the horn trio “Intermezzi”. She will herself perform the piano part in those works which include that instrument. In her 'Komponistengespräch' (Conversation with the Composer) on 30 September 2017, Tchemberdji will provide information about her compositional oeuvre in conversation with Stefan Lang, editor at Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

In 2010 the composer Elena Firsova was composer-in-residence at this festival, then known as “Fürstensaal Classix”.
