Osmo Tapio Räihälä Composes Solo Guitar Piece “Kalliokirskuja”

The new guitar piece “Kalliokirskuja” (engl. ‘White-throated swift’) by Osmo Tapio Räihälä will receive its world premiere at the Kemiönsaari Music Festival (10 to 16 July 2017) in Finland at the event “Flamenco and Small Creatures” on 14 July 2017. Petri Kumela will present the piece at the Tykö Church in the southwest Finnish community of Kemiönsaari.

Räihälä’s work “Mural” was recently premiered at the Leipzig Bachfest on 15 June 2017. At a preliminary talk preceding this concert, the Finnish composer announced his latest work “Kalliokirskuja” as follows: “There will be another premiere this summer, as the guitarist Petri Kumela will perform my work ‘Kalliokirskuja’ (‘White-throated swift’) at the Kemiönsaari Music Festival on July the 14th. It is a short and fast work for solo guitar, written for Kumela’s series ‘Small Creatures’, which now comprises dozens of works by as many composers. White-throated swifts are masterful and very fast flyers, and the work is thus to be played 300 km/h or as fast as you can”.
