“Country Music” - Moritz Eggert Composes a Work for Zither

Late last year the composer Moritz Eggert wrote his work “Country Music” for solo descant zither for the 2017 International Zither Competition in Munich. Now there will be a special concert on 17 June 2017 at the Kulturzentrum Herrmannshof Völksen in Springe (near Hannover) at which the prize winners of the competition will introduce themselves. The winner of the 2017 Ernst Volkmann Prize, Tajda Krajnc, will publicly perform the world premiere of the work at this concert entitled “Zither Moves”.

This competition is held every other year in Munich with the aim of encouraging and qualifying young zither players aged 19 to 35. It is without parallel and the resonance is correspondingly high. The competitors mostly hail from Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Germany. In 2015 fifty young zither players qualified for and participated at the competition.

The concert with first-rate young European is a tremendous opportunity for the members of the Northern Provincial Zither Union and for interested amateurs to get to know and experience new facets of the zither. The music includes modern playing techniques and compositions in new styles written especially for the zither.
