“meta/morph VI: jumble” by Schachtner Given World Premiere in Munich

Johannes X. Schachtner’s work cycle “meta/morph” will be performed during the course of the festival “aDevantGarde.14” (23-28 May 2017) at the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste (Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts) in Munich on the opening day, 23 May 2017. The interpreters will be the Landesjugendensemble Neue Musik Berlin (Provincial Youth Ensemble New Music Berlin) under the direction of Gerhard Scherer. For this occasion, the composer has recently expanded his cycle, so far consisting of five movements, to include a sixth movement entitled “meta/morph VI: jumble” composed in fulfilment of a commission from the Munich festival. This movement will receive its world premiere on 23 May 2017. The first five movements of the work cycle were already premiered on 17 February 2017 by the Jugendensemble für Neue Musik Dortmund/Münster (Youth Ensemble for New Music Dortmund/Münster).

Johannes X. Schachtner comments on his work as follows:
“My work ‘meta/morph VI: jumble’ continues the series of small etudes for ensemble that all vary — stylistically and aesthetically — a twelve-tone row of Anton Webern in very different ways. In the sixth movement the sequence of tones is now linked to a rhythmic model in which the heterogeneous musical material is ‘fit in’ and then repeated a number of times — in ever new interlocking ways —  before it finally lapses into a ‘jumble’.”
