Polish Premiere: “Nu.Mu.Zu” by Kancheli in Warsaw

Andrey Boreyko is the conductor at the Polish premiere of Giya Kancheli’s “Nu.Mu.Zu” for orchestra with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra on 19 May 2017 at the Warsaw Filharmonia. Boreyko also directed the world premiere of the orchestral work with the National Orchestra of Belgium on 16 October 2015 in Brussels (Palais des Beaux-Arts) and performed first premieres in France and Italy in 2016.

Giya Kancheli comments on his 2015 completed work as follows:
“In the Sumerian language, which no longer exists, ‘Nu.Mu.Zu’ meant ‘I don't know’. Illusions that I knew something gradually disappeared and it turned out that having approached the age of 80 and lived a life full of contradictions I found myself utterly confused. What is happening in the world is gradually, step by step, destroying the last hope in my consciousness, without which, for all of us, life loses its meaning.
‘I don't know’ what will happen in the future. However, having lost hope, I keep dreaming about a world in which fanaticism, sectarian strife and violence are no longer the dominant features of world order.”

A further performance of Kancheli’s “Nu.Mu.Zu” will be given on the following day, 20 May 2017 (6 PM), at the Warsaw Filharmonia with the same interpreters.
