"Tremor was commissioned by the Finnish Juvenalia Music Institute for their 2017 chamber music competition for young music students. The work is scored for flute, clarinet and piano, and the duration is around six and half minutes. Tremor is/was a compulsory work in the competition for a trio, with the aggregate age at maximum 48 years - typically it is a piece for three musicians under 17 years of age.
‘Tremor’ doesn't therefore demand fully accomplished technical virtuosity, its challenges lie more in the chamber music aspect. Each part has a lot of tremolos, augmenting repetitions - tremors - and at times the barlines disappear, which requires the players to listen very keenly to each other. Despite the work being written for young musicians, its aim is to be first and foremost a lively piece of music that will challenge its performers regardless their age.”
