Osmo Tapio Räihälä: “Soliloque 3: Avant-midi d’un satyre” Receives American Premiere

The electronic work “Soliloque” by the Finnish composer Osmo Tapio Räihälä, completed in 2013, consists of six individual tracks which can also be performed individually. The oboist Kristin Sarvela will perform the American premiere of the third movement “Soliloque 3: Avant-midi d'un satyre” at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) on 26 February 2017. Sarvela has been an Instructor in Oboe at the University since 2016.

Osmo Tapio Räihälä comments on his work “Soliloque” as follows:

“’Soliloque Suite’ is a chain of individual solo works that can be performed separately with or without the electronic work ‘Soliloque’. The works are:

Soliloque 1: Étoffé (2011, Clarinet in Bb)
Soliloque 2: La tornade (2012, French horn)
Soliloque 3: Avant-midi d'un satyre (2013, Oboe)
Soliloque 4: Ondulé (2013, Marimba, 1-2 to players)
Soliloque 5: Épicentre (2013, Guitar)
Soliloque 6: Baisers volés (2013, Soprano)

The electronic work ‘Soliloque’ consists of six separate tracks that are placed before and after each work in numerical order. When the entire suite is performed, the electronic and instrumental works are placed in order 1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4-5-5-6-6, and the sound engineer may use live-electronic improvisation to provide the conclusion to the work.”

The two individual titles “Soliloque 1: Étoffé” for clarinet solo (SIK 8811) and “Soliloque 2: La tornade” for horn in F (SIK 8832) have already been issued by Sikorski Music Publishers as printed editions.
