Italian Premiere: “grid/index [III]” by Marko Nikodijevic in Rome

As a contemporary counterpoint to the three variation cycles interpreted by the Russian-German pianist Igor Levit at the 2015 Goldberg-Variations Music Festival, the Alte Oper Frankfurt commissioned three compositions pertaining to the variation works performed. Composers from various countries were invited to come to terms with the principle of variation as the fundamental theme of the music festival.

One of the composers commissioned was Marko Nikodijevic, who wrote his ensemble work “grid/index [III]”. The ‘Ensemble Interface’, founded in 2009 in Frankfurt/Main, performed the world premiere of this work by the German-Serbian composer in the Mozart Hall of the Alte Oper Frankfurt on 19 September 2015.

On 16 December 2016 the ‘Ensemble Interface’, consisting of Bettina Berger (flute), Andrea Nagy (clarinet), Christophe Mathias (violoncello), Daniela Müller (violin), Anna D’Errico (piano) and Yuka Ota (percussion) will present the Italian premiere of “grid/index [III]” at the 53rd Festival di Nuova Consonanza in Rome. Patrizio Esposito will direct the work at the Goethe Institute in Rome.
