Daniel Raiskin Conducts “Musica festiva” by Krzysztof Meyer in Slovakia

The organist Marek Štrbák, together with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform the Slovak premiere of “Musica festiva” by the Polish composer Krzysztof Meyer on 26 January 2017 at the Philharmonie (Reduta) in Bratislava under the direction of Daniel Raiskin.

Daniel Raiskin already directed the world premiere of this work in the version for two organs and orchestra on 17 February 2015 at a special concert celebrating the 100th jubilee of the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra in Łódź. The performers on that occasion were the organists Ludger Lohmann and Krzysztof Urbaniak together with the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra of Łódź.

Krzysztof Meyer has supplied the following comments on his “Musica festiva” in 2013:
“I received a composition commission from the Philharmonic in Łódź two years ago. The artistic director of the Philharmonic, Daniel Raiskin, requested a piece for two organs and orchestra which he wished to premiere at the jubilee concert to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Philharmonic.
This proved to be a very interesting task for me, because there are two organs in the concert hall of the Philharmonic: a baroque organ that is not well-tempered and another, typically romantic and modern well-tempered organ. I tried out the instruments several times in order to find out how they sounded together. It was a new, fascinating experience that gave me many ideas. At the same time, I also prepared a version for one organ and orchestra because there are not many concert halls with two organs at one's disposal.
The title ‘Musica festiva’ corresponds to the character of the music, which is intended to sound celebratory and solemn. Many contrasts resulted from the suite-like form of the work; these are additionally emphasised by the large ensemble of the orchestra (which, however, does not include any percussion instruments). The organ part is relatively difficult and virtuosic, but gives the soloists ample opportunity to show their interpretative art.”

On the following day, 27 January 2017, there will be a further performance of this concert at the Reduta on 7 PM with the same interpreters.
