Marko Nikodijevic’s String Quartet “tiefenrausch” Given German Premiere

After the successful world premiere on 19 October 2016 in London and the Hungarian premiere on 19 November 2016 in Budapest, the Berlin-based Armida Quartet will now present the German premiere of Marko Nikodijevic’s string quartet “tiefenrausch” on 30 November 2016 at the Heimathafen Neukölln in Berlin.

The French premiere of “tiefenrausch” has been planned for 15 January in Paris (Cité de la musique, Amphitéâtre) and the Austrian premiere for 30 January in Vienna (Konzerthaus, Schubert Saal), both times with the Armida Quartet. The Swiss premiere will follow on 7 February in Basle (Oekolampad) and the Luxemburg premiere on the next day, 8 February 2017 (Philharmonie, Salle de Musique de Chambre). On the Iberian Peninsula, finally, the Armida Quartet will perform the Spanish premiere on 15 February in Madrid (Fundación Juan March), with the Portuguese premiere following on 19 February 2017 in Lisbon (Auditorio de la Fundacao Gulbenkian).

Marko Nikodijevic comments on his work as follows:
“During my stay at the Deutsches Studienzentrum in Venice from July to September 2016 I am writing my first String Quartet with the title ‘tiefenrausch’. It is a work commissioned by the European Concert Hall Organisation for the wonderful Armida Quartet.
Tiefenrausch (Rapture of the Deep) is a narcosis-like condition that begins from a diving depth of about 30 metres. Characteristics for this intoxicating condition range from an initial tranquillity and impaired logical reasoning through to euphoria, claustrophobia, acoustic hallucinations, tunnel vision, vertigo and paranoia, right up to loss of consciousness and, in extreme cases, even death.
Musically the new piece is a continuation of the voyage of discovery into psychedelic worlds of my previous pieces such as ‘GHB / tanzaggregat’ and ‘K-hole / schwarzer horizont’”.
