World Premiere: Jan Müller-Wieland’s “Father Image” in Hamburg

During the course of a portrait concert celebrating the 50th birthday of the Munich composer Jan Müller-Wieland (*30.03.1966) at the Freie Akademie der Künste (Free Academy of the Arts) in Hamburg on 25 November 2016, the world premiere will be presented of his new chamber work “Father Image” for violin and piano. The performers will be the violinist Elisabeth Kufferath and the pianist Jan Philip Schulze.

Jan Müller-Wieland has commented on his “Father Image” as follows:
“The following associations accompanied me during the composition of this piece: my father, as a young man in the 1950s, playing the First Violin Sonata, Op. 78 of Brahms. The Rain Song Sonata. The archaic father image as protection, as a spur to achieve, as deception and threat. The God-Father image. Godfather. The Lord. And: Hamlet’s father spirit - demanding revenge.”

In this concert, Müller-Wieland‘s works “Himmelfahrt” (Ascension to Heaven) for viola, the violin solo piece “Libero, fragile” as well as his “Klavierstück” (Piano Piece), played the composer himself, will also be performed.
