New Work by Marko Nikodijevic at the Alte Oper Frankfurt

Marko Nikodijevic’s “ABSOLUTIO. Postlude for orchestra” was commissioned by the Alte Oper Frankfurt in cooperation with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony with the generous support of the Society of Friends of the Alte Oper Frankfurt.

The world premiere of Nikodijevic’s “ABSOLUTIO” will be performed on 30 September 2016 at the Great Hall of the Alte Oper Frankfurt by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony under the direction of Juraj Valčuhas. The composer has lovingly dedicated “ABSOLUTIO” to his aunt, Hedvig Mago.

Marko Nikodijevic has supplied the following commentary on his work:
“Postlude, a piece ‘afterwards’, something played later, out of redemption and about redemption.
A three-tone chord develops the musical material by means of intervallic rotations. The musical form is constructed through rotations of the thematic material around imaginary points. Through this, there arises a spiral-like, whirling construction with the remote outlines of a sonata movement. When the motivic material has finally reached the eye of the formal whirl, the centripetal forces are weakened and the material ultimately reaches a musical place with neither time nor gravitation. The score is preceded by a verse from Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’: ‘How else but through a broken heart May Lord Christ enter in?’”

Immediately after the concert (at about 10 PM) there will be an opportunity to meet the composer in the foyer (Level 2) for the talk “At the Bar with Marko Nikodijevic” with moderator Jens Schubbe.
