Dagmar Sikorski - The Music Publisher and Committed Fighter for the Rights of Composers Turns 60

The publisher and managing partner of Sikorski Music Publishers, Dagmar Sikorski, will be celebrating her 60th birthday on 12 March.

Dagmar Sikorski has been creating completely new structures for Sikorski Music Publishers and its widely ramified work ever since she became a managing partner in 1980. The modern appearance of the company and its international networking owe essential impulses to her. She has been active for many decades as a fighter for composers’ rights in the most widely varied copyright societies, associations and unions, and is committed to the concerns of and fair payment to those who create culture.

Dagmar Sikorski was President of the Association of German Theatre and Media Publishers from 1997 to 2004 and President of the German Music Publishers’ Association  from 2002 to 2014. The latter named her Honorary President after she did not stand for re-election. As a presidium member of the German Music Council, Dagmar Sikorski assumed responsibility for the entire sector, committing herself to flexibility and innovation in a constantly changing market. The publisher has also been a member of the supervisory board of GEMA (German Association for the Protection of Rights Associated with Music Performances) since 2003.

Dagmar Sikorski is a co-founder and member of the foundation board of “Kinder brauchen Musik” (Children Need Music), a member of the board of trustees of the German Foundation for Musical Life and is deeply committed to the work of the Hamburg Provincial Music Council. She has been a member of the Committee for Media and Creative Industries of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce since 2011 and a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the Goethe Institute and of the board of trustees of the Friends and Sponsors of the Berlin State Opera since 2014.

Music for children and with children, together with the promotion of music for youths, are areas of work particularly close to Dagmar Sikorski’s heart. She intensively promotes music education as an important component of quality education as a whole.
