Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony under Andris Nelsons Receives the Grammy Award 2016

Andris Nelsons’s standard-setting live recording of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, Op. 93 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music CD 4795059) has received a Grammy Award in the category of “Best Orchestral Performance”. The series entitled “Shostakovich under Stalin’s Shadow” comprises live recordings of those works - performed by the aforementioned interpreters - that reflect Shostakovich’s relationship to the dictator Stalin from the 1930s until the latter’s death. The Tenth Symphony, Shostakovich once said, is a “settlement with Stalinism”.
