“Gallows Songs”: Lera Auerbach’s version for children’s choir Receives Swiss Premiere

Markus Teutschbein is the conductor of the Swiss premiere of Lera Auerbach’s “Galows Songs” for saxophone quartet and children’s choir and will direct the Basle Boys Choir and the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet on 5 March 2016 at the Theodorskirche (church) in Basle. The world premiere of this version was already given in the last year on 9 May 2015, performed by the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and the Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir under the direction of Prof. Gunter Berger at the Frauenkirche in Dresden.

The version of the “Gallows Songs” for saxophone quartet and children’s choir was commissioned by the Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir, the Hamburg children’s choir “Cantemus”, the vocal schools of the Kantorei Darmstadt and of St. Georg Bensheim as well the Basle Boys Choir. The original version for saxophone quartet and women’s choir received its world premiere already on 25 May 2013. The performers in Cologne (Trinitatis Church) were the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and Women of the WDR Radio Choir Cologne under the musical direction of Nicholas Kok.
