Andrey Boreyko and the Belgian National Orchestra with Kancheli’s “Nu.Mu.Zu” in France

Giya Kancheli’s orchestral work “Nu.Mu.Zu”, completed in the year 2015, was commissioned by the Belgian National Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony. On 16 October 2015 the Belgian National Orchestra presented the world premiere in Brussels under the direction of Andrey Boreyko, followed by the American premiere on 5 November 2015 in Seattle, performed by the Seattle Symphony and the conductor Ludovic Morlot.

Now on 28 January 2016 the French premiere will take place performed by the Belgian National Orchestra under their chief conductor Andrey Boreyko in the Auditorium of the Nouveau Siècle in Lille.

Giya Kancheli comments on “Nu.Mu.Zu” as follows:
“In the Sumerian language, which no longer exists, ‘Nu.Mu.Zu’ meant ‘I don't know’. Illusions that I knew something gradually disappeared and it turned out that having approached the age of 80 and lived a life full of contradictions I found myself utterly confused. What is happening in the world is gradually, step by step, destroying the last hope in my consciousness, without which, for all of us, life loses its meaning.
‘I don't know’ what will happen in the future. However, having lost hope, I keep dreaming about a world in which fanaticism, sectarian strife and violence are no longer the dominant features of world order.”
