World Premiere: “Fragments from the Holy Mass III” by Johannes X. Schachtner

Johannes X. Schachtner composed his work “Fragments from the Holy Mass III” for trumpet and organ in response to a commission from the Evangelical State Academy in Munich. On 29 January 2016 the organist Michael Grill and trumpeter Matthew Sadler will present the world premiere of the new chamber work by the Munich composer during the course of the “Long Night of the Avant-Garde” at the Erlöserkirche in Munich.

Johannes X. Schachtner comments on “Fragments from the Holy Mass III” as follows:
“My work ‘Fragments from the Holy Mass III’ for instruments of the trumpet family and organ traces the handed-down dramaturgy of a ‘Missa brevis’ with the movements ‘Kyrie - Gloria - Sanctus - Agnus Dei’. In so doing, the various timbres and possibilities of the instruments of the trumpet family (soprano trombone, piccolo trumpet, natural trumpet, trumpet in B-flat) essentially determine the sound and structure of the respective movements. This sonic diversity is also reflected in the organ part which, at times, contrasts with the trumpet part and, at other times, sonically completes it.”
